Okay, it's officially "a tradition".

Stop the Car will be performing at the third annual 80's scene reunion concert at Art Colony Gallery (formerly Synchronicity) in Evansville, Indiana at 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 3.

This year STC is proud to share the stage with fellow 1980's Evansville band Matinee Idol and present-day performers Kentucky Prophet and Dang Heathens. Admission is $8.00.

It's in the newspaper so it must be true.

There will also be a Cincinnati warmup gig at the Northside Tavern on Tuesday, October 23.

If you had any connection at all with the Evansville music scene in the 1980's, you must check out Doug Shawhan's wonderful Shame of the Eighties site at www.crackrabbit.com. You'll see names you haven't seen in years discussing all aspects of our glorious, collective misspent youth. There's an ever-growing archive of photos, flyers, and ephemera and even a streaming radio station of Evansville bands from back in the day.

Warning: True to its name, crackrabbit is dangerously addictive. You will lose days out of your life.

The site cleanup has begun...

Checking in recently, it was more than a little embarrasing to realize I hadn't updated anything on the site since 2002. Hasn't been much news to report since the band split, obviously, but I'm also seeing tons of dead links and out-of-date information. The mp3's went away a while ago due to storage space issues.

Anyway, a good, thorough site revision is overdue and is now underway. Our old pal crabgrass has offered to host the mp3 files, so those will be available again soon, plus I'm preparing another batch of STC CD's so that we can again fill mail orders for them. Who knows, I might even start working on the bio again. Damn you, crackrabbit.

After almost a year's worth of delays, this month finally sees the release of What it Takes to Please You, the 2-CD Tribute Album featuring the songs of the Cincinnati-based band Over the Rhine. STC guitarist/vocalist Mark Utley's contribution, a cover of OtR's "Happy to Be So", appears on disc one, track four. Mark sings and plays rhythm & lead guitar, bass, and keyboards on the track. Drum programming and recording of the song were graciously contributed by ex-STC drummer Kevin Hartnell.

Click here for a review of the project from CityBeat magazine. Click here for a downloadable mp3 of Mark's track.

We've added a new photo page to the site, courtesy of fan photographer Elizabeth Underhill, who graciously sorted through her collection of 1980's STC pics, scanned the best of the lot, and sent them to us. Most of the photos were previously unseen even by the band, and we are very grateful to Elizabeth for her time and effort. Check out her photographs by clicking here.
